Grilled Romaine Strawberry Salad topped with walnuts and feta cheese

Looking to switch up your salad routine? This Grilled Romaine Strawberry Salad is sure to bust your salad slump!

We lean toward lighter and easy-to-make salads during the summertime, and this one fits the bill. It’s a quick one to make; it only takes a few minutes to grill the romaine and then add the rest of the ingredients to the plate! We love using fresh, spring strawberries to give the smoky taste of the grilled romaine a sweet pop of flavor. And you know we had to add some Greek flare by sprinkling feta on top!

Salads sometimes get a bad rap because they’re not always the most exciting thing on the table. Well no more! This Grilled Romaine Strawberry Salad is served warm, which will come as a (good!) surprise to your guests! We wish you could have seen the looks on our family’s faces when we told them we were *grilling* the salad! You can use either a gas or charcoal grill to grill your romaine. While both taste good, using a charcoal grill adds a nice smoky flavor to the salad.

Grilled Romaine Strawberry Salad-Simple Dressing

You can whip up a simple salad dressing to drizzle over top. We recommend one made with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, honey, and spices. This particular dressing pairs well with this salad, as its slightly sour taste, plays nicely off of the sweetness of the strawberries and saltiness of the feta. You can control the sweetness of the dressing by adjusting the amount of honey that you put into it. Don’t be worried if you like your dressing a bit sweeter–honey has zero fat and zero cholesterol. It’s also been shown to reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol and raise HDL (good) cholesterol! Now that’s what we like to hear!

Ingredients

  • 2 heads romaine lettuce
  • 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • ¼ cup sliced red onion
  • ½ cup crumbled feta cheese
  • ¼ cup walnuts chopped

Dressing

  • ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1-2 tbsp honey
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Wash and thoroughly dry the lettuce.
  • Cut romaine heads in half, lengthwise.
  • Slice strawberries and onions, chop walnuts and crumble the feta cheese. Set aside.
  • Preheat grill to medium.
  • While grill is preheating prepare the dressing by combining all dressing ingredients in a small bowl and whisk until incorporated.
  • Brush both sides of romaine with olive oil.
  • Grill romaine, cut side down, 2-3 minutes or until lettuce starts to char. Flip head over and grill for another 3 minutes. You want the romaine to be partially wilted and the ends slightly charred, but not burnt.
  • Remove romaine from the grill and arrange on a serving platter.
  • Top the romaine heads with the strawberries, onions, feta and walnuts. Lightly drizzle the dressing over the romaine and serve.
